Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Treatments in Las Vegas
What is a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)
Urinary tract infections (UTI) are bacterial infilteration of the bladder or the kidneys. UTIs often affect women of all ages however in men tend to affect men over 40. In women, UTIs are associated with sexual activity and diaphragm use. In men, UTIs are often associated with prostate enlargement, obstruction or drainage catheter use.
Many women suffer from recurrent bladder infections specifically called Cystitis. Typical symptoms are urinary frequency, urgency, burning in the urinary tract and pain. Recurrent UTIs occur in women whose bodies have a more favorable environment for bacterial growth. Imaging of urinary tract can show any anatomic abnormality which may impete urinary flow. A urologic evaluation can help identify risk factors and implement prevention stratrgies.
UTI treatment depends on identifying what is causing the infections. If there is an anatomic abnormality, surgery may be necessary to correct it. Lifestyle changes can help reduce frequency of infections. Sometimes a small dose of daily antibiotics or a single dose after sexual activity may be necessary to bring the problem under control. Although urinary tract infections are very common, they are often treated inappropriately. High doses of strong antibiotics are used inappropriately leading to wide-spread drug-resistant bacteria. Dr Lesani believes in responsible and proper antibiotics use. The shortest course and smallest dose of antibiotics prevent resistant bacteria to florish in your system. If you are taking strong antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and Levofloxacin (Levaquin) on regular basis, you will benefit from a urologic evaluation.
